A new book, published in time for Christmas, will bring back memories for generations of Stonehaven folk, telling the story of the many shops and businesses in the Town over the past 60 years. Willie Main was born in Stonehaven on the 31st January 1884, the second son of Jane Scott and shoemaker James Main; he was one of three boys and six girls and the family lived at 1, Old Pier at Stonehaven Harbour. Four of Willie's siblings emigrated to Australia and New Zealand at the start of the 20th century. The museum had been looking forward to re-opening after the long lockdown and we spent considerable time, energy and money in adjusting the museum to comply with Government guidelines. We actually re-opened on the last weekend in July as a trial and this was successful; it had been our intention to restrict opening to Saturdays and Sundays only until visitors and volunteers had confidence that there was a minimum risk from the virus. After a long period of closure the Government has now given approval for museums etc to re-open. The Tolbooth museum is delighted to re-open its doors to the general public but we do take health precautions very seriously so we are starting slowly. Our first day open will be Saturday 25th July, followed by Sunday. Unfortunately we will be closed during the following week as we assess the precautions now put in place. Hopefully we will be open again the following weekend (1st and 2nd August)...
