Stonehaven Tolbooth Association (STA) is delighted to announce that today (21st December) it received full planning permission and listed building consent for the proposed alterations to Stonehaven’s Tolbooth. Given the nature of this iconic building, which was constructed at the end of the 16th century and its location in the idyllic setting of Stonehaven harbour, the Association always knew that the planning process would be challenging. However, we have been fortunate enough to liaise with two extremely experienced teams of architects and their initial vision and subsequent detailed plans have produced an extension that is both modern in style yet blends with the old building. STA is very grateful to Historic Environment Scotland, Aberdeenshire Council, Stonehaven Heritage Society, Stonehaven Town Partnership and the large number of individuals who have provided support and guidance throughout the whole process. STA looked forward to the future when Stonehaven will have an extended museum and a café with stunning views over the harbour and Stonehaven Bay. This is another step in the direction of making Stonehaven a desirable tourist destination.
